Newark police say they caught three men involved in shooting of city police officer

Newark police say they caught three men directly involved in the shooting of a city police officer.

Authorities say Omar Bridges, of East Orange, and Newark residents Alphonse Ollie and Rasheem Woods escaped from a chase and shootout with Newark police early Saturday morning. Officer Eduardo Patinho was hit in the face and shoulder in the gunfire.

Police say during the gunfire, Bridges was hit in the stomach. He was driven to a hospital in Pennsylvania where he was treated under a false name. Investigators eventually tracked him down and arrested him Monday.

All three men, who are 24 years old, were charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and other offenses. Officer Patinho underwent surgery at University Hospital and is now in stable condition.
