Flea market held in Jersey City to support NJ National Guard troops and families

(10/16/04) JERSEY CITY - Families of several New Jersey National Guard members prepared for an impending massive deployment with a special flea market Saturday at the Jersey City Armory, located on Montgomery Street. The Family Readiness Group raised money to help support the families left behind while helping to send the troops overseas a little taste of home.

More than 2,000 troops from the New Jersey National Guard are expecting to be called to active duty next month in one of the biggest deployments in their history. The flea market helped their families financially as some of the servicemen and women will be on leave from their full time jobs.

The Family Readiness Group is also planning to send care packages to the troops when they reach their destination. The organization is also planning several other fundraisers to help families pay for household bills.
