Three Englewood public officers accused of falsifying public records

Three Englewood public officers appeared in court in Hackensack Monday. The court judge, police chief and police sergeant are each accused of falsifying and tampering with public records.

Judge Joseph Clark, Police Chief David Bowman and Sergeant Emma Jackson are each accused of falsifying records so that an inmate could attend his fathers funeral. They each pleaded not guilty and were released on their own recognizance.

The inmate, Lloyd Fields, was serving time at the Bergen County jail on a narcotics-related charge. Defense attorneys say Clark, Bowman, and Jackson didnt think they did anything wrong in how they processed Fields. The prosecution says there is a procedure on how to process prisoners and the state alleges the procedure was not followed.

The next court date for this case is set for November 15.
