Bloomfield residents can enter a lottery to receive a flu vaccine

Bloomfield residents looking to receive a flu vaccine must enter a flu shot lottery.

The town is one of the few in the state that ordered the flu vaccine directly from the manufacturer. Town officials will be running a flu shot clinic soon, but only have 300 doses of the vaccine. Bloomfields mayor says the only fair way to give them out is to hold a lottery. He also says the town is holding the lottery to avoid people waiting in long lines.

Town officials are asking senior citizens and residents with serious medical conditions to register at the local fire station Thursday. According to the Bloomfield health director, they will select 300 individuals from the lottery and notify them by mail of the date, time and location of the clinic.

The flu shot lottery is only open to people who live in Bloomfield.
