Federal officials indict 19 suspected gang members in New Jersey
Federal officials are calling it the largest gang bust in New Jersey history. Nineteen suspected gang members were indicted on several charges Tuesday.
After a four-year, multi-departmental investigation aimed at busting up gang activity, 19 suspected members of the Double-Eye Bloods face charges including racketeering, murder and heroin distribution. Police say the men terrorized parts of Essex County. Many residents hope the latest indictment will help improve the quality of life in the area.
U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie says the latest indictment is a significant step in going after a gang that has been entrenched in Essex County and other parts of northern New Jersey for the last 21 years.
All of the men indicted are already in jail on other offenses. Christie says if convicted on these latest charges, the men could spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
