Seniors in Bloomfield register for a flu shot lottery

Seniors in Bloomfield lined up early Thursday at Fire Company 3 on East Passaic Avenue to register for a flu shot lottery.

Bloomfield health officials are offering 300 flu shots to their residents through a lottery. The town bought the vaccine directly from the manufacturer and not the state. The lottery is only open to Bloomfield residents. Those residents have to be 65 and over or a younger person with a chronic medical condition.

Bloomfield Health Director Trevor Weigle says the registration opened early so the seniors did not have to wait outside in the cold. He says the residents signing up are receptive of the lottery idea.

Health officials plan to close the lottery by 4 p.m., but say they will stay open until everyone in line is registered.
