Officials hold security meeting following patient escape at Bergen Regional

The Bergen County Improvement Authority discussed security procedures Wednesday at a freeholders meeting, after a patient escaped from the Bergen Regional Medical Center last week.

Police say after the escape, the patient reportedly committed suicide. Elizabeth Randall of Bergen County Freeholder says their interest is to prevent this from happening again.

A medical center spokesperson says the patient who escaped had manipulated a lock to get out. The spokesperson also says corrective measures are being taken, including additional locks on doors.
