Cops up to task when it comes to busting New Jersey bank bandits
(10/26/04) HAWTHORNE Police and FBI officials in New Jersey say when it comes to solving bank robberies, they are up to the task.
Counties throughout New Jersey have seen a rash of bank heists during the past few months. According to FBI and police officials, the typical bandits are drug addicts looking for a quick-cash solution to support their habit. Law enforcement officials also say the spike in robberies is occurring throughout the Tri-State area.
While the number of heists may be on the rise, police say their efforts to bust bandits have been almost as prolific. A spokesperson for the FBI claims that out of 50 robberies in the past year throughout Morris, Bergen, Passaic and Sussex counties, 40 have been solved. According to the official, the 80 percent solution rate is exceptional.
