Plan proposed for night racing at Monmouth Park

The horse racing at Oceanports Monmouth Park will be going nocturnal next season if a plan to hold races at night is approved.

The idea, which must be approved by the Racing Commission, was proposed by Senate President and future Acting Governor Dick Codey. Park officials say the races will most likely run from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Some Oceanport officials and residents have concerns about the traffic, noise and bright lights that may be caused by the races. Although there were concerns among some residents, others feel the revenue generated by the extra events can only be a plus for the community.
