Gas leak in Fords forces dozens from their homes, offices

A gas leak in Fords forced more than 50 people from their homes and offices and tied up traffic for hours Friday. Officials say gas company workers doing repairs on New Brunswick Avenue hit a six-inch gas main. Firefighters shut down the road between King Georges Post Road and Hornsby Street. Then they went door-to-door telling people to evacuate while gas company workers sealed the line to stop the leak. The road reopened at 11:15 a.m. It is not yet clear who is at fault for cutting the gas line. But officials say the path of underground line was marked as required by state law.
