Voters' presidential choice may hold key for 12th Congressional District

(11/02/04) TRENTON Candidates for the 12th Congressional District may get a feel for who will be victorious in their own race based on voters picks for president.

Many people feel both incumbent Rush Holt (D-12th District) and Republican challenger Bill Spadea hold views that are very similar to both President Bush and John Kerry. Due to these similarities, some observers feel voters will chose the Congressional candidate in the same party as their choice for president.

According to Rush Holt, the presidential choices should not affect the Congressional race because district voters will be willing to split their ticket. Spadea says his toughest challenge is overcoming the perception that it is difficult to beat an incumbent.
