Bergen County Dems celebrate Freeholder seat sweep

Democrats in Bergen County spent Wednesday celebrating a Freeholder seat sweep and a sheriffs race victory. Democrats Thomas Padilla, Elizabeth Calabrese and James Carroll claimed the three contested Freeholder seats by more than 170,000 votes. The winners say they want to expand on programs theyve implemented with a particular focus on public safety and law enforcement.

Democrat Leo McGuire, an Oakland councilman and Ridgefield Park police sergeant, was elected Tuesday as the countys new sheriff. McGuire says he plans to restore accountability to the Sheriffs Department for Bergen County residents.

As the lone Republican on the Freeholder Board, Lisa Randall says she will be watching her Democratic counterparts closely. Randall also says she will continue to push issues she feels strongly about.
