Physically, mentally challenged students gain strength by learning karate in Peapack

(11/06/04) PEAPACK - Physically challenged students at the Matheny School in Peapack are turning to karate as an alternative form of physical therapy.

Once a week a karate master works with the students on punching and kicking. The classes are helping students gain strength both mentally and physically. The class began five months ago and therapist at the school says the students are making huge strides.

The Matheny School also offers the physically challenged classes in painting to dancing. The school's Art Access Program will showcase at an event Sunday featuring several dance performances. That event runs from 3-6 p.m., and admission is $25.
