Cultural leaders in NJ cautiously optimistic about peace should Arafat die soon

(11/06/04) EDISON - Palestinian leaders are meeting with rival factions in the Gaza Strip to promote peace in case Yasser Arafat dies in France where he is currently in a hospital in poor health.

After several failed negotiations throughout his leadership, some cultural leaders in New Jersey believe Arafat's death could inspire peace between Palestinians and Israelis, but they are cautiously optimistic.

A spokesman for Arafat says the Palestinian leader is no longer in a coma, but "sleeping" in intensive care. If Arafat dies, another issue would be the location of his burial. He wants to be laid to rest in Jerusalem, but Israelis strongly oppose the move.
