Parents want answers after jet opens fire on Little Egg Harbor school
Concerned parents in Little Egg Harbor attended a meeting Monday to find out why an F-16 fighter jet shot cannon rounds at the Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School.
A National Guard spokesperson in attendance says the shooting, which occurred last Wednesday night, is under review. The jet was apparently on its way to the nearby Warren Grove Firing Range when it fired approximately 25 rounds at the school. No one was injured during the incident and no students were present in the building at the time.
Little Egg Harbor officials and parents are concerned that a similar mishap could happen while school is in session. They say they are also concerned about the danger posed by having a target range close to residential areas. The military has temporarily suspended exercises at the Warren Grove range.
Further information on the incident will be released by the military after the investigation is completed. Students returned to class at the intermediate school Monday.
