East Orange cops accused of brutality, suspended without pay

(11/12/04) EAST ORANGE Three members of the East Orange Police Department are under investigation following accusations of police brutality.

Aaron Boyd, arrested during a drug bust nine days ago, claims he was severely beaten by officers while handcuffed. Boyd's mother says she took photos of her sons injuries without police knowledge. In addition, a surveillance tape may show evidence backing up Boyds claim.

East Orange Police Director Jose Codero has now suspended the three officers in question without pay. Codero says the allegations, if true, are a disappointment. Boyds parents believe Coderos actions are an admission of guilt.

Boyd was released Friday on $2,000 bond.
