Brick Boulevard reconstruction causing business traffic gridlock

(11/15/04) BRICK Commuters and business owners in Brick say theyve had just about enough of the Brick Boulevard reconstruction project.

Area business owners say sales have taken a sharp dip since the construction project began. According to one deli owner, deliverymen and customers have complained about the gridlock and traffic holdups theyve encountered while driving to the establishment. The owner also adds that fewer people buying perishable goods has increased the amount of wasted food.

The good news, according to the county engineer, is that the end is in sight. County officials say the project was necessary because the 36-year-old roadway is weakening under the traffic of more than 3,000 cars a day.

The county engineer also says most of the paving will be completed before the end of December. Many Brick residents, however, say theyll believe it when they see it.
