Millstone firehouse plans ignite four-alarm controversy
(11/17/04) MILLSTONE A proposed plan to build a firehouse substation has ignited the flames of controversy in Millstone.
Fire officials would like to build the station on three acres of preserved land in Perrineville Park. Some residents, however, vow to fight the construction in court. Those opposing the substation say the fire departments plan goes against the very notion of open space preservation.
Members of the fire department say the substation will help their response time and give them better access to the northern part of town. Millstones mayor says she understands the stance of the fire department, but she also believes the taxpayers funding the construction should have a say on the stations location.
