Accused piano-teaching peeper from Middletown temporarily out of jail

(11/18/04) MIDDLETOWN Some Middletown residents are furious after a convicted pedophile piano teacher was temporarily released from jail.

Police arrested 68-year-old George Johnson in July and accused him of using hidden cameras to spy on students using his bathroom. Authorities say many of Johnsons victims were under 13 years old. According to police, the piano teacher was previously convicted of child molestation in 1962 and 1982.

Now, Johnson is out of jail due to a deal his family cut with prosecutors. The accused peeper is now undergoing a 90-day sex abuse rehabilitation program in Texas. Some residents in the Middletown area say it is unfathomable that a convicted pedophile with a recent arrest can be out of jail so quickly.

Johnsons family members say they love him and they want him to get help. After the rehabilitation program, he will be returned to Monmouth County jail.
