Authorities investigating two separate, same-day murders in Hudson County
(11/21/04) JERSEY CITY - In Hudson County, authorities are investigating two separate murders that happened early Sunday morning. One was in Jersey City; the other happened in Union City.
In Jersey City, someone opened fire at the intersection of Dwight Street and Ocean Avenue. Police say 21-year-old Tyrone Michael Fuller was shot once in the head, and his brother 29-year-old Marcus Fuller was shot once in the lower back as he tried to run from the gunman. Cops say Tyrone Fuller died, but his brother remains in stable condition at Jersey Medical Center. So far, no arrests have been made in this case.
In Union City around the same time, police say 24-year-old Tomas Hernandez of Fairview was stabbed to death by his 23-year-old cousin at the Elpisano Bar on 22nd Street. Authorities say they responded quickly to this incident and were able to make an arrest with the alleged murder weapon in hand. They believe an argument about a girl they both knew sparked the violence.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward Defofazio has taken over both investigations.
