New Jersey travelers warned to expect holiday headaches
(11/22/04) NEWARK Port Authority and FAA officials are preaching patience when it comes to traveling before Thanksgiving.
As usual, experts are predicting the Wednesday before the holiday to be an extraordinarily busy travel day. FAA representatives say the wet forecast leading up to Thanksgiving may cause flight delays of approximately two hours.
In addition to flights being backed up, travelers may have a hard time finding a spot to park their car once they get to the airport. Airport officials say parking will be a problem despite the opening of 19,000 new parking spots at Newark Liberty. Managers of off-site parking garages are also expecting their facilities to be filled to capacity, so they urge travelers to call ahead for reservations.
According to Port Authority officials, the best way to avoid traffic and parking shortages is to use public transportation.
