Large crowds could mean early Christmas for some mall thieves

(11/26/04) WOODBRIDGE Store employees are urging caution when it comes to mall security during the busy holiday season.

A spokesperson for Woodbridge Mall says thieves and kidnappers welcome the large pre-Christmas crowds because it makes their job easier. Security officials say vigilance is of utmost importance when it comes to consumers protecting themselves, their children and their items.

Woodbridge Mall General Manager Amy Bellisano says shoppers should keep their packages close to them at all times and they should also protect their private information when using credit cards. Bellisano also warns parents to keep a very close eye on their deceptively quick children.

In addition, out of the mall does not mean out of the woods. Experts say criminals may target shoppers heading to their cars in store parking lots.
