Codey looking to expand troublesome section of New Jersey Turnpike

(12/01/04) TRENTON Acting Governor Dick Codey is looking for ways to relieve traffic congestion on a notoriously cramped stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike.

While speaking to an audience at the South Jersey Regional Conference, Codey said he has given the Turnpike Authority a green light to start investigating an expansion between exits 6 and 8A. The area in question, unaffectionately known as the merge, spans from Burlington to Middlesex counties.

Those who heard of the plan for the first time seemed to be very much in favor of the expansion. Codey says the cost of the project will run into the billions, and construction could be completed approximately three years after the projects start.
