Ocean County health officials urge AIDS awareness

(12/01/04) LAKEWOOD Health officials in Ocean County are attempting to raise AIDS awareness on World AIDS Day.

Experts say there has been a spike in cases among African-American women between the ages of 25-44. According to health officials, the scientific progress in AIDS treatment may have lulled the public into a false sense of security. A member of the Ocean County Health Department says the most important and often most ignored piece of advice is very simple get tested.

AIDS Day activities, including free testing and educational programs, were held Wednesday at Bethel Church of God in Christ in Lakewood.
