Police sting in East Rutherford nets more than 40 accused mob members

(12/01/04) EAST RUTHERFORD An operation conducted by Bergen County prosecutors and New Jersey State police has resulted in the arrests of 43 accused organized crime members.

Police officials say Operation Jerzey Boyz targeted a Genovese crime family operation headquartered at Caffe Roma restaurant in East Rutherford. The investigation originally began as an illegal gambling bust, but was later expanded when police say they learned of racketeering, bribery, theft, extortion and loan sharking operations at the establishment.

In addition to the Genovese family, police say members of the Bonanno and Lucchese families were also involved in the illegal activities at the restaurant. A police spokesperson says six additional arrests are imminent.
