Corzine challengers say big name and big money will not guarantee victory

(12/02/04) JERSEY CITY Some Republicans running for governor of New Jersey say its going to take more than a popular name and a lot of money for Senator Jon Corzine (D-NJ) to win the next election.

Candidates Bret Schundler and Doug Forrester both say New Jersey residents want a governor that will work for them and keep their best interests in mind. According to Schundler, Corzines money should not be a factor in the race. He says residents dont want to be bought and owned.

Although the opposing candidates say Corzine is by no means a shoe-in, the results of some polls contradict that sentiment. The latest Quinnipiac poll, taken before Corzine announced his candidacy, has the senator leading Acting Governor Codey 60 percent to 20 percent. He leads Schundler 51 percent to 30 percent and Forrester by 51 percent to 29 percent.
