New Jersey gamesmen say DEP has hunting in its sites

(12/03/04) MORRISTOWN Hunters in New Jersey fear the head of the DEP may be trying to get rid of their favorite pastime.

The state Supreme Court ruled Thursday to ban the upcoming bear hunt in New Jersey. The ruling stated a comprehensive bear hunt plan, approved by the DEP commissioner, needs to be implemented.

Many hunters throughout the state say they feel uncomfortable with that type of power in the hands of one person. They fear the commissioner, Brad Campbell, could decide to nix hunting altogether throughout then entire state. Hunters also say the growing bear population is dangerous to New Jersey residents.
