Parents in Haledon fighting to keep Police Athletic League for their children

Haledons Police Athletic League is considering joining up with Patersons PAL to serve all kids from Passaic County. Now, some parents in Haledon are fighting to keep the Police Athletic League for their children only.

Many parents whose kids are members of the PAL are concerned the organizations days are numbered. Haledons mayor says the town has a plan to bail out PAL, which includes taking over the building on Roe Street. However, the Leagues Board of Trustees hasnt accepted the towns offer.

A spokesman for the Paterson PAL says their organization wants to lease the building from Haledons league. Many Haledon parents are upset PAL officials might be bringing in an outside town and cutting their already limited sports programs.

PAL is an organization designed to help kids after school and all year round. Haledons league isnt run by police officers, the way it is in some towns. The mayor says he is waiting for the league to reschedule a meeting that was recently canceled.
