Residents around Fort Monmouth heard test of emergency alert system

Residents around Fort Monmouth heard a test of the emergency alert system Friday. This message sent holiday greetings and reminded residents to attend an upcoming Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

In October a message was also delivered by the emergency alert system, but many residents did not hear the portion of the message that stated it was only a test. Instead many residents were panicked when they heard the mention of a biological attack.

County officials want residents to contact their local police if they are confused by an alert message. They advise people to listen to the entire message completely to understand what is happening.
