Family in Sayreville heartbroken after young father was run over and killed

The family of Jason Kaufman is heartbroken after he was run over and killed early Friday morning in Sayreville. Police say they need the publics help in finding the person responsible.

According to police, the accident occurred on Route 9 just beyond parkway exit 123. They say Kaufman decided to walk home from the South Amboy train station after attending a company holiday party. Kaufman called his family for a ride and mentioned the route he would be walking. Kaufmans brother said as he drove looking for Jason, he came upon the scene.

Police say they believe the car is a late model Ford Econline. They add they found silver plastic vehicle parts at the scene and the suspects car will have front end damage. Police urge anyone with information on the incident to call the Sayreville Police at 732-727-4444.
