Dover residents in midst of cell phone tower communication breakdown

(12/14/04) DOVER Some Dover residents say they are against the proposed construction of a cell phone tower in the Chadwick Beach area despite the towers seemingly inconspicuous design.

Officials of the company in charge of building the structure say the tower will be disguised as an ordinary, everyday flagpole. According to a spokesperson for Mesquite Tower Consultants, the towers interesting look will even hide any lines, antennas or wires. The spokesperson also says it will be constructed 200 feet away from all residential property.

The opinions of various residents, however, differ when it comes to the towns new addition. Some say the tower may lead to a decrease in property values and pose a safety hazard to nearby homes. Others say they welcome the improvement in the areas cell phone service.

A recent study revealed cell phone towers in other areas had no effect on property values.
