Police in Ocean County fear pedophiles are targeting teens through Web site

Members of the Ocean County Police Computer Crimes Unit say a legal Web site for teens may be a dream come true for Internet predators.

BuddyPic.com is a site that allows teens 13 and older to post information about themselves and meet other people. However, police officials fear the wealth of information each user offers will make them a target for pedophiles.

Names, ages, e-mail addresses and photos are just some of the items teens can post on the site. Police say they were alarmed to discover users were once able to post their hometown. Although that feature has been removed, authorities say teens can still make that information available to other users by posting it in another category.

Parents who have learned about the service say the best way to keep young adults out of danger is to regularly monitor the sites they are visiting.
