Two-alarm fire in Newark leaves six families homeless for the holidays

Six families in Newark may be homeless for Christmas after a fire in a neighboring apartment building forced them out of their homes.

According to fire officials at about 8 oclock Saturday morning the building next door when up in flames. Officials say the two-alarm fire was so intense it spread to the six-family apartment next door. They add at least 13 people will be left homeless for the holidays.

The Newark Fire Department considers the fire as suspicious. They say the owner of the building was cited for several code violations last week. Investigators say, so far, clues indicate this was not an accident.
