Contractor says Lambertville church keeping a tight lid on the collection box

(12/20/04) LAMBERTVILLE A local contractor is accusing a Lambertville church of refusing to pay its bill.

Trenton-based contractor Gary Hochschild says he was hired by the First Baptist Church to remove scaffolding that had become destabilized by high winds. After completing the job, Hochschild says the church would not pay the $3,900 fee or return any of his phone calls.

In addition, the church may owe the Town of Lambertville approximately $9,000. A town representative says they will be going through the churchs insurance company to receive payment.

Hochschild says he will treat churches like any other company in the future. According to the contractor, he will request payment up front and a signed contract.

The First Baptist Church would not return any of News 12 New Jerseys phone calls.
