Morristown merchants trying to keep pace with big businesses during holidays

(12/20/04) MORRISTOWN The Morristown business community is working hard to keep up with the big boys during the highly competitive holiday shopping season.

Free parking, gift wrapping and appearances by Santa Claus are just some of the incentives being used to attract shoppers to downtown Morristown. Some small businesses in the area say theyve noticed a definite boom in sales during this Christmas season.

Despite rave reviews by some business owners, others feel more needs to be done. Some say the closure of Epsteins department store, once a major attraction in the town, was a major blow to the areas holiday financial push.

Several Morristown merchants feel a variety of stores and redevelopment along Speedwell Avenue is necessary for future success.
