Jersey City woman accused of starving her cats to death

A Jersey City woman is accused of starving her cats to death Tuesday.

Animal control officials say Geraldine Green is responsible for the death of 38 cats. They say the animals were living in their own filth in the Harrison Avenue home. They add that the animals died from starvation and dehydration.

One of Greens neighbors initially called police because bags of garbage started to pile up on the Greens front lawn. Green told her neighbors that she was sick and couldnt care for her cats. However, she told Jersey City officials the cats didnt belong to her.

Green appeared in court and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. If convicted of animal cruelty, she faces possible jail time and up to $76,000 in fines.
