Metuchen radio station sends out help signal for Asian tsunami victims

(12/28/04) METUCHEN A Metuchen-based Asian-American radio station has become a sounding board for residents affected by the tsunami tragedy in Southeast Asia.

Listeners have been steadily calling EBC Radio, or WTTM 1680, to grieve or offer their support to those who have loved ones in the affected area. The phones at the station have been open to concerned listeners since news of the devastating earthquake and tidal wave broke Sunday.

EBC and the Edison-based Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce will be working together to form a relief effort for tidal wave victims. A representative of the station says New Jersey residents, despite their ethnic background, must to come together and help those in need.

The tsunami has killed more than 52,000 people to date. It has also left millions of residents in Asia displaced and prone to diseases.
