FBI investigating laser beams aimed at plane at Teterboro

The FBI is investigating a report inwhich lasers were apparently aimed at a pilot preparing to land atTeterboro Airport.

The pilot reported that three green lasers were pointed into his cockpit Wednesday night. Authorities believe the beams originated near the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne. They are questioning several people about the incidents, including a man from Parsippany.

The pilot saw the lasers on his approach to Teterboro. Thecorporate-owned Cessna Citation, with 13 people aboard, wasabout 11 miles from the airport when the incident occurred; it landed safely and no injuries were reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration has documented incidents involving commercial jets in which pilots, temporarily blinded by laser light while attempting to land, had to turn over the cockpit controls to the co-pilots.

Several recent incidents involving laser beams aimed at aircraftacross the country have raised concerns about possible terroristactivity.
