Truck driver strike causes delays in the garbage pick up in Mercer County

People in several towns in Mercer County didn?t get their garbage picked up Monday morning due to a strike by Local 701 truck drivers.

Approximately 50 members of the Teamsters Local 701 union slowly walked down Paterson Avenue in Hamilton in a strike against Waste Management Corporation. Some of the union members say Waste Management wants to take away their benefit package. Some also say the corporation has unfair labor practices.

Waste Management Corporation hired non-union drivers to try and pick up all of the trash in Mercer County. The corporation handles the garbage and recyclable pick ups for most of the towns in the county.
