PTA president in Teaneck accused of pilfering from organization's funds

(01/10/05) TEANECK ? Police in Teaneck have arrested the Bryant School PTA president and charged her with stealing thousands of dollars from the organization.

Investigators say 22-year-old Rashanna Akbar used the PTA?s debit card to purchase a cruise, hotel rooms, food and video rentals for herself and her friends. According to police, the mother of four misused funds raised by parents through bake sales and dues. Authorities believe Akbar stole more than $12,000.

Police say a new PTA treasurer noticed problems with the debit card bill and referred the matter to authorities. A member of the Teaneck Police Department says Akbar faces possible jail time and she may also be forced to pay back the funds in question.
