Cops looking for man who searched teen in Chatham Borough

(01/13/05) CHATHAM BOROUGH ? Police officials in Chatham Borough are investigating an incident in which a man, who appeared be a policeman, stopped and searched a teen on his way home from school Monday.

The boy says the individual approached him from behind and asked to search his backpack. According to the teen, he allowed the search because he thought the man was from the police department. The boy says the suspect was wearing a shirt with an emblem and had some type of badge on his belt.

Police officials in Chatham say the man was not from their department, and they are now looking for the individual in question. Chatham Borough Police encourage anyone with information about the incident to call (973) 635-8000.
