Suspects say 8-year-old to blame for starting Union blaze

(01/17/05) UNION ? Fourteen people are homeless after investigators say an 8-year-old boy started a fire at a two-family home in Union Monday afternoon.

According to investigators, the blaze started after the boy played with a lighter and threw a burning object onto a pile of clothes. Fire officials say the flames, which eventually took 40 minutes to extinguish, spread through the structure quickly.

A spokesperson for the fire department says no one was hurt in the incident. One of the families plans on staying with relatives for the time being. Officials say the other family is being taken care of by the Red Cross.
