Frozen pipes a widespread problem for Garden State plumbers

(01/19/05) WOODBRIDGE ? Plumbers throughout New Jersey seem to be dealing with a common enemy during the latest spell of cold weather ? frozen pipes.

Both plumbers and residents say the cold weather and frozen water have caused major headaches during the latest Garden State deep freeze. However, experts say there are ways to avoid the trouble of freezing pipes during the cold winter months.

Plumbers say residents should keep their cabinets open to raise temperatures near pipes. They also say freezing can be prevented by letting water run from the faucet. If pipes within a home or apartment do freeze, experts say it is best to turn on the water to relieve pressure. A hair dryer can also be used to heat frozen water.
