New Jersey road crews, residents mop up after major snowstorm

(01/24/05) EDISON ? The snow may have stopped, but work continues for public works crews and residents throughout New Jersey.

Road crews continued to plow Monday in an effort to keep the streets as clear as possible. A public works spokesperson says finding an ideal place to dump excess snow is always a problem for crews after a big winter storm. For now, many townships will be using local parking lots for ?snow storage.?

Besides plowing, crews spent the day clearing storm drains to prevent flooding. A crewmember performing that task says left unattended, the ice and snow would block the water?s path down the drains.

Residents were also out in force after the weekend digging out walkways and sidewalks near their homes. Some who were not satisfied with plowing jobs on side streets took matters into their own hands and shoveled roadways that still needed attention.
