Democratic fundraiser gets two years in Piscataway farmer extortion case

(01/27/05) NEWARK ? A Democratic fundraiser with close ties to former Governor Jim McGreevey received a two-year prison sentence Thursday for extorting money from a Middlesex County farmer.

David D?Amiano admitted he offered to help a Piscataway farmer with a land preservation deal in exchange for $40,000. Although McGreevey says he was one of the unnamed state officials mentioned in the indictment, defense attorney Ed Plaza claims D?Amiano acted alone. Plaza also made it clear his client is not cooperating or offering any information to authorities, who suspect others were possibly involved in the incident.

U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie says he will not comment on the investigation until more concrete facts develop.
