Coptic Christians in Jersey City remember slain family

(01/30/05) JERSEY CITY ? The Coptic Christian community in Jersey City held a vigil Saturday in front of the home where four family members were found murdered earlier this month.

The bodies of 47-year-old Hossam Armanious, his wife, 37-year-old Amal Garas, and their two daughters, ages 16 and 8, were found with their throats slashed on January 14. No arrests have been made, and police have not named any suspects. Members of the Coptic Christian community said the vigil is an opportunity to both pray for and remember the deceased family.

There was speculation that the brutal killings may have been retaliation for anti-Muslim remarks posted on the Internet by the family?s father. Police are looking into those claims in addition to a possible robbery motive.
