Investigation underway into cause of Teterboro Airport plane crash

(02/02/05) EDISON ? National Transportation and Safety Board investigators are currently sifting through the aftermath of Wednesday?s small plane crash at Teteroboro airport. However, it may be some time before any concrete facts are uncovered.

A Bombardier Challenger CL-600 corporate jet skidded across a six-lane highway and smashed into a nearby clothing store warehouse at 7:23 a.m. Aviation expert Ray Syms says the type of plane involved in the crash is typically well maintained. However, Syms also says no plane is immune from various glitches and technical problems.

According to Syms, it is too early to determine what caused the aircraft to skid off the runway. Even though the investigation is still in its early stages, some have speculated that improper de-icing of the plane?s wings may be the cause of the crash.
