Neptune family mourns loss of soldier killed in Iraq

(02/04/05) NEPTUNE ? A Neptune family is in a state of mourning after a 27-year-old soldier was killed in Iraq.

Army Sergeant Stephen Sherman died Thursday when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Mosul. The Iraqi city was also the site of a mess tent bombing in December, which Sherman survived.

The sergeant?s family, friends and teachers all have fond memories of the fallen soldier. His relatives said in a written statement that Sherman ?died fighting for what he believed in; and our entire family is proud of his service.?

Teachers at Spring Lake Heights Elementary who had Sherman as a student say they had difficulty getting through the school day after learning of his death.
