Many Paramus residents don't want proposed juvenile detention center built

Signs line the streets of Paramus expressing many residents opposition to the building of a proposed juvenile detention center.

Hundreds of residents say a detention center would jeopardize the safety of the neighborhood. Bergen County officials unveiled the plan over the summer and the number of opponents has been growing.

Paramus Councilman Keith Zakheim says many residents, along with the mayor, have succeeded in getting the county to put the plan on hold. Residents say they will not remove their signs until the detention center is relocated.
