Hoboken residents urged to stay alert after spike in robberies

(02/08/05) HOBOKEN ? A spike in robberies during the month of January has many Hoboken residents beefing up security at their homes and apartments.

According to police, there were 35 robberies at various locations around the city at the start of the new year. Police officials say they don?t know the cause of the increase, but they also say some arrests have been made in connection with the incidents.

Authorities are urging all who live in Hoboken to take extra precautions when it comes to securing their residence. Police say all doors, including garage doors, should be kept locked when no one is home. They also warn apartment residents against buzzing their building?s entrance open without answering the intercom.
